GoDBowie is a David Bowie covers band celebrating his genius and songs. Playing many of the greatest hits and key album tracks they also perform shows featuring whole albums around key anniversaries. The philosophy of the band is to cover exclusively David Bowie songs or performances. We do not consider ourselves a tribute act as we don’t dress up as band members, not even as Bowie. Not that we disapprove of dressing up, just imitation.
The ethos of the band is David Bowie songs played by David Bowie fans for David Bowie fans. We try to remain true to the spirit and arrangement of the original songs as far as possible though sometimes we take Bowie live versions as our template.

The band was formed in the wake of David’s death in 2016, originally intended as a one-off for a single gig in the spring following his departure. It was formed by Bristol musician Quentin John Burton (aka QJB) who had been a David Bowie fan since he was very young.
It was instigated by Q and Kizzy Morrell, a close friend and notable singer and figure on the Bristol music scene. They recruited Damian Polley on guitars, Chris Hales on piano and keyboard (who already played with Q in art rockers The Real King(s) of Spain), Perry Robbins on drums, percussion and vocals who had played in the Elton John Experience and the Expressions plus the coup of legendary saxophonist, flautist and harmonica player Sean McBride. QJB completed the line up on bass.
After the tribute gig they decided that they wanted to take it forward and though gigs were sporadic the sets were amazing with highlights of Kizzy singing Young Americans, a brooding Lazarus which reduced grown men to tears and a multi-vocalist version of Heroes.

Starman and Let’s Dance were also floor fillers and firm favourites with the band and audiences alike. A unique feature, partly inspired by Holy Holy which had Bowie alumni and used to perform the whole of The Man Who Sold the World album, Q was keen to put on shows where the first half was an entire album played in order and the second half a blazing set of hits and key tracks. Guests were often added on vocals and guitar, the former when due to illness Kizzy had to stop performing.
2026 will be a big year for us. Plans for 10th anniversary shows are near confirmation and we plan to reintroduce some old favourites as well as some new collaborations and ideas. More show details on the ‘Gigs and Events Page’. We’re also looking for new members and special guests on confirmed dates as we expand our repertoire. More details on the ‘Meet The Band’ page.

The plan is to rehearse and perform a series of shows leading up to the 10th anniversary of both Blackstar and David’s death in early January in Bristol and then use their reel to secure more live dates in 2026 leading to the 50th anniversary of Station To Station which is on the 23rd January.
